Samsung Bixolon SRP-275 Receipt Printer Review
Looking for a top notch impact (dot-matrix) printer for your business? You may want to take a closer look at the Samsung Bixolon SRP-500. The Samsung Bixolon SRP-275 printer was voted as the Best Channel Product by subscribers of Business Solutions Magazine in June of 2009. It was the only impact receipt printer to receive the prestigious award. Known for their durability and low price, the Bixolon SRP-500 has been replacing the better known Epson TM-U200 and TM-U220 printers at many hospitality and retail businesses. The reason for this is because they were designed specifically for this purpose. The Bixolon SRP-275 uses the same Epson ERC38B or ERC38BR ribbons designed for the Epson TM-U200 and TM-U220 printers. Better yet, they are also set to emulate the Epson printers by default, which means in most cases replacing your Epson TM-U200 or TM-U220 is plug’n’play. And if that were not enough, an SRP-275 cost $30 - $50 less than the Epson TM-U220. Have we got your attention yet?
Strengths
The Bixolon SRP-275 is reliable and prints at a fast 5.1 lps, due to its bi-directional printing capability and logic-seeking technology. These features make it not only faster than most dot-matrix printers, but also quieter. It offers one or two-color printing, black and red, which can be used for printing bold logos or highlighting specials on printed receipts. Bixolon also features an adjustable paper seat, which allows for paper widths of 57mm, 69mm and 76mm (3 inch).
The Bixolon SRP-275 printer comes in either ivory or dark gray, for a sleek look in any location. With its small size and low weight (under 5.5 lbs), durable exterior, and splash proof cover it can be used anywhere. And with interfaces for parallel, serial RS-232, USB, and Ethernet, this printer can easily integrate into any POS system.
The team at POS Shopper generally prefers either inkjet or thermal printers for most retail environments, but impact ribbon printers still necessary for certain functions. Businesses that require multiple copies using 2-ply or 3-ply paper require an impact printer. Impact printers are also preferable in restaurant kitchen environments, rather than thermal printers that can fade or curl due to heat.
Weaknesses
Our team really did not have much to report. Over the last three years, POS Shopper has only logged one complaint for the Bixolon SRP-275. The customer stated that the 3-inch paper rolls seemed tight in the paper carriage. We found our customer was using a low quality, brown paper. We sent them a roll of white bond as a comparison, which resolved the issue.
We were also surprised to find we had not received one phone call inquiring about repair of a Bixolon SRP-275 in the 3 years we have been selling the printer. This is truly remarkable, considering the number of printers we have sold. Perhaps we should have listed this statistic in the strengths category.

Conclusion
The SRP-275 is a low priced, award winning impact printer that we have found to be reliable, durable, and fast. In most cases it is a switch-out and go replacement for the Epson TM-U200 and TM-U220 printers. If you need a reliable impact receipt printer and that is light on the pocket-book
