Magnetic Card Readers - aka Credit Card Readers or Mag Stripe Readers (MSR)

Magnetic Card Readers, also known as credit card readers or mag stripe readers (MSR), are used to process credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, drivers licenses, ID cards and membership program cards. They transfer the data stored on tracks 1, 2 or 3 of the card to a POS System or computer for transaction or data processing. Most national and international credit cards only use the first 2 tracks. Other card types, such as drivers license and ID cards use the track 3 to store additional information.

Interface Types:

    Keyboard Wedge - Connects between the keyboard and computer's keyboard port. Sends data
    to the software as though it were send from the keyboard.

    USB / Keyboard Emulation - Connect to the stations USB port and sends data as though from
    a keybaord.

    USB HID (Human Interface Device) - Connects to the stations USB port. USB HID is not
    currently supported by many applications. Confirm if it is supported by your software maker.

    Serial (RS-232) - Connects to the computer's 9-pin serial port. Serial card readers are not
    supported by many software application.
